With a car trunk stuffed and a backseat filled with donations on her way to the St. Vincent DePaul shelter, State Representative Stephanie Cummings (R-74) thanked her community partners and everyone who donated to make the 2019 Holiday Giving Trees a success!
Rep. Cummings sponsored a holiday collection to benefit the St. Vincent DePaul Mission of Waterbury shelter, and today dropped off boxes and bags filled with hundreds of toys, personal care items and gift cards.
The holiday trees and their “ornaments” were hosted by Waterbury PAL – 64 Division Street, Waterbury, DOLCE, LLC – 91 Schraffts Drive, Waterbury, Waterbury Senior Center – 1985 E. Main St. Waterbury, and The Cave – 1900 E. Main Street, Waterbury, and Fidelity National Title Insurance Company – 111 Founders Plaza #600, East Hartford. Each tree had paper ornaments with specific needs for the mission. People chose an ornament, fulfilled the wish and returned the gift to the location where they picked it up. All of those gifts were brought to the shelter and will be distributed to people -in-need in Waterbury.
Rep. Cummings was joined by the Mission’s director of development, Edwin Rodriguez, case manager Anthony Guerrera, and several volunteers who helped carry the multiple bags and boxes inside. Mr. Rodriguez said the items will be sorted and distributed to those who need them. Toiletries and personal care items are always needed at the shelter, he said.
The shelter can house between 80-100 women, children, men and families each night.
“The people of Waterbury continue to amaze me with their generosity and concern for others, and knowing the items collected with the Giving Tree program are being distributed right here in Waterbury makes those donations even more special” Rep. Cummings said.”I cannot thank everyone enough for their kindness during the holiday season. Thank you!”
