The Connecticut Department of Transportation (DOT) will be closing a portion of Route 1 in East Lyme starting this Monday, November 11th, between Heritage Road and Lovers Lane, to facilitate replacement of a bridge over the brook.

The closure will last for two weeks, beginning at 8:00 a.m. on November 11th, and re-open at 8:00 a.m. on Monday, November 25th.

Signs will be installed to detour drivers as follows:

Route 1 South: Proceed on Route 161 to the intersection of Interstate 95. Take the ramp to Interstate 95 southbound and proceed to Exit 70.

Route 1 North: Proceed on Interstate 95 to Exit 74. Turn left at the off-ramp onto Route 161 northbound.

Work consists of replacing the existing corrugated metal pipe arch culvert built in 1982 with a new precast concrete box culvert. Approximately 200 feet of full depth reconstruction of the roadway will also be performed adjacent to the bridge. Finally, an existing sanitary sewer line will be relocated to the south of the bridge.

Please maintain a safe speed when driving in this vicinity and seek alternate routes as necessary.
