The State Bond Commission, of which Rep. Cheeseman is a member, will be voting on this bond item at their June 7th meeting.
This funding, which totals $2 Million will be used to upgrade and expand the shelter’s facilities, ensuring better care for the animals and improved services for the community. The current shelter is about 75 years and has failed state inspections for years. Cheeseman said the new building will provide a much healthier environment for the animals and personnel that will be working there. The total cost of the project is estimated to be $2.6 million.
Representative Cheeseman, a long-time advocate for animal welfare and community support, has been instrumental in securing this grant with her persistent efforts and strong advocacy in the legislature highlighting the urgent need for improved animal care facilities in Montville. The Montville Animal Shelter, which has been operating under constrained resources, will greatly benefit from this financial boost, enabling necessary renovations and the expansion of its capacity.
“I am thrilled and thankful to Governor Lamont for including this grant for the Montville Animal Shelter, on the bond commission agenda,” said Representative Cheeseman. “This grant is a vital local investment for the Montville community, ensuring that the shelter can continue its critical work in providing care and shelter for animals in need. These upgrades will enhance the quality of care, provide better living conditions for these precious animals, and improve the overall efficiency of the shelter.”
Last month, Cheeseman visited and toured the Montville Animal Shelter to see firsthand the conditions of the current structure and its limitations.
The grant will be allocated towards modernizing the shelter’s infrastructure, including the addition of new kennels, improved medical facilities, and enhanced operational spaces. These improvements will help the shelter meet the increasing demand for its services and provide a more humane environment for the animals.
Representative Cheeseman also wanted to extend her gratitude to the State Bond Commission for recognizing the importance of this project.
