HARTFORD – State Representative Holly Cheeseman (R-37) offered public testimony in support of HB 5576 “An Act Establishing a Job Creation Initiative” before the General Assembly’s Commerce Committee on Thursday, February, 21st.

The proposed legislation would study job training and placement programs to create a results-based jobs initiative drawing on those programs with a proven track record of success. The goal is to attract and retain much needed workers especially for manufacturing.

Rep. Cheeseman commented in her testimony, “To meet the needs of our employers and to provide our residents of all ages with the skills they need for the jobs and careers of today and the future, we as a state must maximize the return on our investment in job training initiatives by prioritizing funding for those that actually work.”

The representative also shared the example of the Eastern Workforce Investment Board (EWIB) as a successful jobs initiative. In the few years since its founding in 2016, the EWIB has placed 1100 workers at Electric Boat and other local companies.
