HARTFORDState Representative Holly Cheeseman (R-37), who spoke at a press conference hosted by the “StopPotCT” Coalition in March, stood again to oppose the passage of legalization of recreational marijuana this session.

The proposal was brought before the House as a strike-all amendment that mirrored S.B. 11: An Act Concerning The Legalization And Taxation Of The Retail Sale Of Marijuana with a few minor additions and revisions.

Prior to the debate on the floor, two proposals legalizing the use of adult recreational marijuana had been vetted through the committee and public hearing process. H.B. 7320, a bill originally drafted to require the Commission on Economic Competitiveness to study the tax, revenue and bonding policies of the state and identify legislative changes to improve the business climate and economic opportunities in the state, was passed temporarily by the majority party. It will likely not be debated again this year as the 2017 regular legislative session concluded on Wednesday, June 7th at midnight.
