Rep. Cheeseman Honored by Safe Futures for Her Work to Stop Domestic Violence

WATERFORD – State Representative Holly Cheeseman (R-37) received recognition for her dedication and commitment to the Center for Safe Futures in 2024 on Friday, June 14th at the Safe Futures Light to Way Breakfast at Langley’s Restaurant at the Great Neck Country Club.

The guest speaker and presenting sponsor for the breakfast was Dr. William Petit, a known state-wide advocate on behalf of domestic violence victims.

Also, on hand to honor Rep. Cheeseman were, Kathy Verano, Executive Director of the Center for Safe Future and Meghan Scanlon, the Executive Director of the Connecticut Coalition Against Domestic Violence (CCADV).

“I am very humbled to receive this recognition from Safe Futures. The Center for Safe Futures does important work in providing support, shelter, and love to victims of domestic violence,” said Rep. Cheeseman. “I am proud to advocate for organizations like Safe Futures, making sure they have all the resources they need to support their great work.”

During this legislative session, Holly co-sponsored legislation, PA 24-77 to end coerced debt, a form of economic abuse often used by domestic abusers to maintain control over victims. This bill aims to provide essential protection for survivors and break the cycle of abuse.

And last year, Rep. Cheeseman secured state bonding funds for Safe Futures for the creation of a Family Justice Center and centralization of Safe Futures.
