I would like to take a moment to wish you and your family a happy and peaceful Thanksgiving. For me, this was always a weekend of family, food and fellowship. It is my hope that you will also be able to celebrate this uniquely American holiday with family and friends by your side/ and give thanks for all the gifts we have been blessed with this year.

Also, if you are planning to start shopping for gifts this weekend, please try to shop locally this season and support our small businesses. Saturday, November 30th is the tenth annual nationwide Small Business Saturday. This day is meant to bring attention to the important movement towards small businesses and to support entrepreneurs in our communities. We have a number of great shops and restaurants across Southeastern Connecticut that you can visit.

Click here for a list of small businesses in our community that are participating in #SmallBusinessSaturday. I hope you will consider including them as a stop on your search for the perfect gift this year!

Niantic’s 16th Annual Holiday Stroll will also be held this Saturday, November 30th at 3:00 p.m. This family-friendly day includes horse-drawn carriage rides, holiday music, complimentary hot cider and cocoa on the town green, arts and crafts, games, the Annual Chili Cook-Off, s’mores, the arrival of Santa, and a Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony at 5:00 p.m. on Liberty Green. There will also be a “Snow-Flake Drop” to take advantage of discounts and giveaways at local shops and restaurants.

Before Santa arrives at the Town Green, you can stop by with your children at the Children’s Museum of Southeastern Connecticut between 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. to write him a letter, with no admission fee.
