EAST LYME- To update the East Lyme seniors on the latest happenings at the State Capitol, State Rep. Holly Cheeseman (R-38) joined interested residents at the East Lyme Senior Center for a brief legislative update on the issues near and dear to their hearts at the Monday lunchtime event.

East Lyme’s resident representative joined dozens of energized seniors and guests to review new laws affecting seniors passed in the 2021 legislative session.

“It wonderful to be so graciously welcomed by this important and often under-represented part of our community,” said Cheeseman.  “Our seniors have needs that are, in many ways, under-served today and, especially since many of us will someday share many of these same concerns, I think it’s appropriate to tune in to their message and consider how we can align services with our state’s changing demographics.

“As their State Representative; it was a great opportunity to hear their thoughts about the State of our State,” said Cheeseman. “Many residents are worried about our state economy, especially those on fixed incomes.”

Issues discussed during the almost hour and a half talk ranged from the state’s role in election security and the expansion of early and absentee voting, a proposed regional gas tax, the rise in juvenile car thefts and what can be done to curb these crimes, and holding our public utilities accountable in providing quality service, especially those that rely solely on retirement or Social Security benefits.
