TorringtonState Representative Jay Case and State Senator Craig Miner participated in a ceremony this morning at The Gathering Place in recognition of a supportive $3,000 donation from Spectrum. This donation will be used to help the organization provide for those in need during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Spectrum has been a great contributing partner to our community through their many philanthropy initiatives,” said State Sen. Craig Miner. “Their generous donation to The Gathering Place is critical in supporting individuals and families in need during the COVID-19 pandemic.”

“In this ever-changing environment, it’s great we can count on the community partnership of Spectrum and their continued support to towns here in the Northwest Corner. As a result of their commitment to helping The Gathering Place, many individuals and families will have greater access to housing and food resources,” said State Rep. Jay Case.

The Gathering Place serves as the local point of entry for all homeless, serving all 26 towns in Litchfield County. “On behalf of The Gathering Place of New Beginnings, I am pleased to accept the donation from Spectrum to provide the needed COVID assistance to the Winchester Emergency Shelter and our local community,” said Nancy Cannovo, RN, who serves as President of The Gathering Place’s Board of Directors.

Many shelters are unable to provide resources for residents throughout the day. That’s where The Gathering Place steps in and provides itself as a resource center throughout the daytime hours. The Gathering Place also offers important on-site assistance services including mental health assessments, applications for permanent housing, and employment programs.

“Spectrum is proud to lend support to organizations, like The Gathering Place, and the important work they do in communities,” said Camille Joseph, Group Vice President, State Government Affairs for Charter Communications. “Together, we’re building stronger communities where our customers and employees live and work across America.”
