HARTFORD – The legislature’s Human Services Committee recently took action on several pieces of legislation, including State Rep. Christie Carpino’s (Cromwell/Portland) concept to provide more career opportunities for individuals with disabilities. By unanimous vote, the committee favorably acted on H.B. 7093: An Act Establishing a Task Force to Increase Employment Opportunities for Persons with Disabilities.

“We are always looking for ways in which we can support job creators and the Connecticut economy. There are so many individuals who are waiting on the sidelines and are excited about potential opportunities to perform meaningful work. This legislation seeks to identify concrete steps we can take to increase these opportunities and support those with disabilities in their quest to become better integrated in the workforce,” explained Rep. Carpino.

In her time away from the Capitol, Rep. Carpino spends many hours volunteering alongside those with disabilities. Additionally, residents of Portland and Cromwell have reached out and inquired about what potential opportunities there might be within the state’s workforce.

“Employment can drive financial stability, social interaction, and self-worth. It is well documented that people with disabilities often struggle with obtaining appropriate employment. There are real people here in Connecticut deserving an opportunity to share their talents and contribute to the workforce. As a state, we can do better,” said Rep. Carpino.
