Carpino Supports Providing Pension Benefits for Fallen Trooper’s Family

HARTFORD- State Rep. Christie Carpino (32) today supported a change in state law to provide pension benefits to the families of fallen state troopers and other state employees who die in the line of duty.
“Today we corrected a massive injustice to our brave men and women in blue, giving them a benefit they’ve rightly earned. This change in law, discovered after the tragic death of Trooper First Class Aaron Pelletier, will ensure that families, like the Pelletier family, are supported financially after such a horrific tragedy,” said Rep. Carpino.
Current state law prevented certain surviving spouses of individuals killed in the line of duty to receive pension benefits. Pelletier was only 34 and had 11 years of service at the time of his death.
The new law supported by Rep. Carpino, and unanimously supported in the House of Representatives, House Resolution 12, closes this gap and updates the yearly cash payment for survivors.
