HARTFORD – State Representatives Devin Carney (R-23) and Christie Carpino (R-32) joined CT Department of Transportation (DOT) officials for a tour of the ongoing construction work on the Arrigoni Bridge. The bridge is currently undergoing extensive rehabilitation work. The project is currently in stage three and the entire project is scheduled to end in late February of next year.
The representatives also toured the main street area of Middletown, which is undergoing work to ease traffic conditions, improve safety for vehicles and pedestrians, and provide for pedestrian access from Main Street to the Riverfront.
“As the ranking member of the legislatures Transportation Committee, Connecticut’s infrastructure is a top priority of mine,” Rep. Carney said. “It was great being able to get an up close look at the progress the Connecticut Department of Transportation is making on the Arrigoni bridge and to talk directly with staff gave me a unique look into the day-to-day activities, planning, and budgeting that go into a major DOT project.”
“The Arrigoni Bridge is not only a major part of our transportation system in Portland, but it is also a historic landmark in our community,” said Rep. Carpino. “While ongoing construction work is never ideal, DOT has done an excellent job communicating with both local officials and the business community throughout this project.”
