    Last night we debated if it was better to feed a man a fish, or teach him how to fish on his own. Universal basic income is a flawed system that relies on raising taxes to pay people a basic wage, instead of empowering them with a sustainable career. While it has positive intentions, it would create a significant financial burden on Torrington residents. Our role, as lawmakers, should be to find better ways to give opportunities to residents so that they can independently develop a confident financial foundation for generations. To me, that’s the American Dream.
