State Lawmakers Applaud Anticipated Funding Allocation for Candlewood Lake Boat Launch in New Fairfield

HARTFORD—State Representative Patrick Callahan (R-108), Senator Stephen Harding (R-30) and New Fairfield First Selectman Melissa Lindsey on Friday applauded an anticipated $1.1 million allocation by the State Bond Commission next week for renovations to the Squantz Cove/Candlewood Lake Boat Launch in New Fairfield.
“I’m appreciative of the decision from Governor Lamont and commission members to invest in this project, and to the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection for making this a priority,” said Callahan, whose district surrounds Candlewood.
“We applaud this critical investment in New Fairfield and surrounding communities. Squantz Pond is a vital natural resource for myself and so many of my neighbors. This will further enhance its incredible value,” said Harding.
The money, slated for approval at the June 7 Commission meeting at the Legislative Office Building in Hartford, is included in requested funds to finance statewide improvements/repairs and new construction at various State Park, Forest, Boat Launch and Wildlife Management areas.
“We are happy to hear that the state has moved forward to approve funding for renovations to the Squantz Cove / Candlewood Lake Boat Launch so that our residents can continue to enjoy the area. Thank you to Representative Callahan for always being a strong advocate for New Fairfield,” said Lindsey.
“Candlewood and Squantz Pond are popular recreation areas in Western Connecticut and provide a positive economic boom in the Greater New Fairfield area each summer. I’m pleased that the state is keeping up with repairs and renovations so the boat launch can continue to operate,” added Callahan.
