Hartford–A controversial bill that would setting greenhouse gas emissions goals through actions determined by the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection Commissioner passed the Environment Committee in a party-line vote on Friday. State Representative Patrick Callahan (R-108) spoke against the bill:
I am opposed to SB 1145, which is the Transportation and Climate Initiative (TCI) tax-in-disguise. An Act Concerning the Establishment of Sector Specific Subtargets for Greenhouse Gas Emissions Reductions raising costs on food, electricity, natural gas, and home heating oil. To add insult to injury, the bill redefines the terms direct and indirect emissions. The bill requires state government to report on the emissions of every resident and business in our state. From restaurants to office buildings, from single- and multi- family homes to apartment buildings, from manufacturers to farms, and even mortuaries, this legislation will adversely impact everyone in no uncertain terms. It represents government run amok.
