Rep. Callahan Re-Appointed as Ranking Member of Environment Committee

HARTFORD – House Republican Leader Vincent Candelora has appointed State Rep. Pat Callahan (R-New Fairfield) to once again be the Ranking Member of the legislature’s Environment Committee. This appointment will be effective when the Connecticut General Assembly convenes for session on Wednesday, January 8, and will remain through the 2026 session.
“I am excited to get to work in the upcoming session on issues like protecting Connecticut’s waterways and all of our natural resources,” said Callahan. “As a former leader of the Candlewood Lake Authority, I know the importance of maintaining the health of waterways. They are important ecological resources, but also serve as recreational and economic drivers for many areas of the state.”
As ranking member on the committee, Callahan worked with the CT Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) and municipal leaders on water safety and park management issues at Squantz Pond. Locally, Callahan also has a proven advocacy record for the preservation of Ball Pond.
The Environment Committee is tasked with considering all matters related to DEEP, including conservation, recreation, pollution control, fisheries and game, state parks and forests, water resources and flood control. The committee also considers matters related to the Department of Agriculture, including farming, dairy products, and livestock.
Callahan has also been reappointed to serve as a member of the Judiciary Committee. For his work during the 2024 legislative session in that committee, he was recently presented with the 2024 Carroll J. Hughes Legislator of the Year Award from the CT Police Chiefs Association. Callahan will also serve as a member of the Transportation Committee for the upcoming term.
