The state’s Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) has extended the public comment period for two proposed regulations, one that would ban the sales of new gas-powered passenger cars (beginning in 2035) and another that would gradually prohibit the sale of new gas-powered trucks that are used to ship goods and provide essential services.
I testified during the public hearing held earlier this week. The new deadlines to submit your written comments to DEEP is by 5pm on August 30th.
I’ve seen no evidence that Connecticut will be ready to accommodate this aggressive timeline, and an Eversource official testified that they would need to invest up to $2.4 billion in new substations and upgrades to existing ones, and need higher rates or state subsidies, to build the required infrastructure.
