Hartford—State Representative Patrick Callahan (R-108) joined a group today of business owners and representatives of a variety of industries affected by the Highway Use Tax in talking about the negative impact this will have on trucks, and on Connecticut’s economy. Adopted in 2021, the highway use tax is levied according to a truck’s weight and miles traveled on any Connecticut roadway. This tax will impact construction, lumber, energy, equipment transport, and agriculture among other industries.

The Finance Committee is holding a public hearing on H.B. 5290, which would eliminate the tax, Friday at 2pm.
