Callahan Appointed as Ranking Member of Environment Committee

HARTFORD – House Republican Leader Vin Candelora has appointed State Rep. Pat Callahan (R-New Fairfield) to be the Ranking Member of the legislature’s Environment Committee. This appointment will be effective when the Connecticut General Assembly convenes for session on Wednesday, January 4, and will remain through the 2024 session.
“I am appreciative of this leadership appointment and am excited to get to work in the upcoming session,” said Callahan, who is currently a member of the committee. “We had some productive discussions as a committee in previous sessions and made progress in brownfield remediation and state conservation. I look forward to building on those sound public policy examples to further preserve our greenspace and waterways.”
Locally, Callahan has a proven advocacy record for the preservation of Squantz Pond, Ball Pond, and Candlewood Lake. For 10 years he served as Chairman of the Candlewood Lake Authority and has collaborated with the Dept. of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) on lake management issues and water safety.
“Rep. Callahan’s prior service on the Environment Committee and his local stewardship of his district’s state parks will make him an effective Ranking Member. I am confident that he will navigate the complex topics and discussions revolving around the state’s environment,” said Leader Candelora.
The Environment Committee is tasked with considering all matters related to DEEP, including conservation, recreation, pollution control, fisheries and game, state parks and forests, water resources and flood control. The committee also considers matters related to the Department of Agriculture, including farming, dairy products, and livestock.
