HARTFORD – The Connecticut Business Industry Association (CBIA) recently released its 2021 legislative voting record scores. CBIA represents hundreds of businesses throughout Connecticut and advocates to the legislature on their behalf. The scores generated are based on the legislator’s support of the various topics endorsed by CBIA. State Rep. Pat Callahan (R-New Fairfield) was recognized by the organization as having achieved a 100% ‘pro-business’ voting record.
Callahan also went on to oppose sweeping policy changes that will bode poorly for the Connecticut business climate, such as the addition of a ‘big truck’ tax. Despite strong opposition from CBIA and legislators alike, the governor and majority party approved a new tax to be assessed on large trucks, consequently driving the cost of all goods delivered by a truck upwards.
“Throughout the pandemic, business owners have reached out to me and I have been doing my best to listen to their concerns and support policies that will help them get back to operating normally, as they did pre-pandemic. For example, as we move into further dependence on the digital space, I supported a new law that incentivizes businesses to invest in higher standards of cyber security for on-line transactions and record keeping. This policy change bolsters the integrity of our state’s businesses while protecting our consumers,” explained Rep. Callahan.
