HARTFORD – House Republicans held a news conference on Wednesday, February 16, to unveil the top legislative priorities for the 2022 legislative session. The five-part plan has been crafted to help point our state in the right direction in the wake of the pandemic.

IRS Tax Filing Information & Resources

Free File available January 14

IRS Free File will open January 14 when participating providers will accept completed returns and hold them until they can be filed electronically with the IRS. Many commercial tax preparation software companies and tax professionals will also be accepting and preparing tax returns before January 24 to submit the returns when the IRS systems open.

Buckbee Supports Implementation of Energy Storage Initiative

Hartford – The State of Connecticut has begun its decade-long energy storage program. This program is designed to help both businesses and residents by providing an avenue for them to install a battery powered energy source – a potentially life-saving mechanism in the event of a prolonged power outage. The nonpartisan Office of Legislative Research (OLR) has issued its 2022 Major Issues report. OLR crafts this report annually to provide an overview of the major topics that the legislature is likely to take up. Of note are the sections addressing the pandemic (pg. 5), potential tax relief proposals (pg. 9), and juvenile justice (pg. 13).

Hartford – The governor’s team has indicated that a new ‘digital medical’ passport-like program will be launched within the coming days. Similar programs have been sporadically introduced across the country, like in Connecticut’s neighboring state of New York. The details of Connecticut’s program, however, are not being made public.
