HARTFORD – State Rep. Billy Buckbee (R-New Milford) began the tradition of New Milford Day at the State Capitol in 2018. On Wednesday, April 20, New Milford Day was once again held at the Capitol Complex in Hartford after a two-year hiatus caused by the pandemic’s building restrictions. Buckbee was joined by his fellow New Milford area legislators, including Rep. Pat Callahan (R-New Fairfield) and Rep. Stephen Harding (R-Brookfield).

“I want to thank our local businesses, services, and programs, Chief Cerruto, and all who came up to Hartford today to make New Milford Day possible. Since the event’s inception a few years ago, it has quickly become a tradition that my colleagues look forward to participating in on an annual basis. From baby goats, to innovative childcare programs, New Milford has a little bit to offer to everyone,” said Buckbee.

Buckbee addressed his legislative colleagues on the House Floor while holding a baby goat named Catherine. The House gave them both a warm reception before the Speaker began official legislative business for the day.

“Advocating for the best Town in the U.S.A. is easily one of the best parts of this job. Showcasing what our community offers to our region and neighbors across Connecticut is what it’s all about,” said Buckbee.

Buckbee also took time to recognize New Milford’s fallen K-9 officer, Drake. He presented Chief Cerruto with a citation to memorialize the dog’s service to the New Milford community, and welcomed the newest K-9 officer, Mattis.

Participants from New Milford included:

  • Bagel Barn
  • New Milford Girl Scouts
  • Pratt Nature Conservancy
  • Create a Castle
  • New Milford Police Department
  • Goatboy Soaps
  • Kimberly-Clark
  • Myke Foo Media

“This was my first New Milford Day at the Capitol, and I couldn’t be prouder of how our community was represented. It was able to grab a bite to eat from the Bagel Barn and talk about some of my old fishing spots in town with the New Milford police officers. I hope everyone across Connecticut has the opportunity to come visit soon,” said Rep. Callahan, who’s legislative district includes part of New Milford.

“It was an honor to celebrate New Milford Day at the Capitol today,” Rep. Harding. “It was an incredible way to celebrate great businesses, residents, and public servants in the local community.”
