HARTFORD – It was announced on Thursday afternoon that State Rep. Bill Buckbee (R-New Milford) has been appointed as the Ranking Member of the legislature’s Energy & Technology Committee by House Republican Leader Vin Candelora. The appointment comes weeks before the legislature convenes its 2023 session, and it will remain effective through next year’s 2024 session.

“Many have voiced concern recently about the escalating rates in the energy market here in Connecticut. I look forward to collaborating with my colleagues on the committee to address these concerns immediately in an effort to reate solutions that will bring meaningful help to consumers,” said Buckbee, who currently serves on the committee. “I am also committed to exploring sustainable resources and emerging technologies to better the quality of life for Connecticut residents.”

During his previous service with the committee, Buckbee has helped craft new public policy. In 2021, he co-sponsored a new law allowing a temporary increase of Class III energy resources to be utilized by Connecticut’s manufacturers, such as New Milford’s Kimberly-Clark. With its passage, this law also hardened the area’s energy delivery infrastructure, acting as a safeguard to other electricity consumers.

The Energy & Technology Committee is charged with reviewing all matters related to the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, its energy planning, and activities.
