Statement from State Representatives Buckbee and Buchsbaum on Approval of Special Education Funds

Statement from State Representatives Buckbee and Buchsbaum on Approval of Special Education Funds

Following the veto of our previous spending package to fund excess cost grants for special education, a new bill was brought to the floor today. Once again, we supported an amendment that would have allocated $108 million to all school districts, helping to cover projected local deficits through the state’s budget surplus. Unfortunately, our amendment did not pass. However, a $40 million allocation was ultimately approved.

We are committed to working with our colleagues in Hartford to ensure that Connecticut students have the resources they need to succeed in the classroom. Providing every student with the educational support they deserve remains a top priority, and we will continue fighting for solutions that put students first.
