Petitioning for a Special Session

Republicans held a news conference yesterday to unveil progress on a petition process to call the legislature into special session. The call to action outlines five proposals that would provide ratepayers with immediate relief. We will look toward the next session to craft a long-term plan that provides stability and clarity for residents and businesses. To date, all Republican members of the General Assembly have submitted their names to the petition.

The five proposals we are looking to act on include:

Moving the ‘public benefits’ charge to the state budget and off the electric bill
Allocating the remaining ARPA funds to offset costs accrued by the shut-off moratorium that lasted roughly 4 whole years
Capping all future power purchasing agreements to no more than 150% of the wholesale electric market
Redefining Class I energy sources to enable competition to lower procurement cost
Restoring the autonomy of PURA, removing the regulatory body from the purview of DEEP and the governor’s office
