Several new laws will be taking effect on Saturday, July 1. These laws cover a range of topics, from the enactment of the state budget, improving accessibility of critical state programs, to further protecting victims of domestic violence. I have highlighted some of the major acts below and encourage you to review all the newly effective laws.

LAWS EFFECTIVE JULY FIRST (click here)

State Budget – Historic levels of tax relief will go into effect at the beginning of July. This includes lowering the state’s income tax rates (from 3% to 2% and 5% to 4.5%, respectively) and providing greater retirement income relief. This sustainable relief stays within the bipartisan spending and borrowing cap agreements.

Accessing Developmental Programs – Individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities will have a better experience when applying for and engaging in state offered developmental services. These services include day programs, employment opportunities, healthcare, and housing options.

Expanding Domestic Violence Victim Protections – Those who have experienced the trauma of domestic violence need safe and stable options so they can remove themselves from a toxic environment. This new law will expand the resources available to victims, providing the necessary legal and financial assistance to those in crisis.
