HARTFORD – Since the beginning of the current legislative session, State Rep. Bill Buckbee (R-New Milford) has been advocating for greater transparency of Connecticut’s electricity rate setting process and for clearer regulations on the operations of third party energy suppliers – encouraging their continued participation on the state market. These concepts have been approved by the Energy & Technology committee to be heard on Tuesday, February 21, at the Legislative Office Building.

“While I recognize the global energy crisis and its inherent impact on our local market, more must be done to protect Connecticut ratepayers. One way to ensure that ratepayers are provided with options is to codify the operations of our third party suppliers. The infusion of competition to the Connecticut market is a critical component in providing consumer choice and keeping rates in check,” said Buckbee.

Legislation Buckbee has put forth and will be heard on Tuesday includes:

    • S.B. 123 – An Act Concerning PURA, The Regulation of Electric Rates and State Public Policy Concerning Electricity Generation
    • H.B. 5626 – An Act Requiring Third Party Electric Suppliers to Obtain Surety Bonds
