Buckbee Supports Implementation of Energy Storage Initiative

Hartford – The State of Connecticut has begun its decade-long energy storage program. This program is designed to help both businesses and residents by providing an avenue for them to install a battery powered energy source – a potentially life-saving mechanism in the event of a prolonged power outage. State Rep. Bill Buckbee (R-New Milford) supported the legislation to implement the program when it came up for debate during the 2021 legislative session.

“Radical weather is becoming more of a common issue. While we continue to explore better options to harden Connecticut’s energy distribution infrastructure, the newly established energy storage program will be another option for people and business owners to keep their lights on during storms that knock out power,” said Rep. Buckbee, who serves on the legislature’s Energy & Technology Committee.

According to Buckbee, the installation of a battery in one’s home or business can help provide peace of mind in the event of a prolonged extreme weather event. Batteries can help keep refrigerators, medical equipment, and household appliances going without running an on-site generator.

“In our collective effort of environmental stewardship, effective energy storage will play an integral part in achieving lower carbon emissions. For businesses and homes already operating from solar energy, the installation of a battery seamlessly fits into those existing systems,” explained Buckbee.
