    2017 Major Public Acts

    2017 Major Public Acts
This article was archived from the previous WordPress site. Formatting and media should be close, but may not match the original post perfectly.

Every year, the non-partisan Office of Legislative Research (OLR) puts together a report detailing major pieces of legislation that have been assigned public act numbers. I provided a brief update in the closing weeks of session regarding several pieces of legislation that I had co-signed and had made it through both legislative chambers. OLR’s report, however, provides a greater scope of what the legislature has done in 2017.

The entire report can be reviewed by clicking here.

Some of the bills this report highlights include:

    • New tool for municipalities to remediate brownfields (P.A. 17-214)
      • please click here to review my previous press release
    • Prohibition of discrimination on the basis of a veteran’s status during consideration for employment (P.A. 17-127)
    • Denial of state dollars to be used on a mileage tax study (P.A. 17-174)
    • Prevention of opioid abuse (P.A. 17-131)
      • please click here to review my previous press release

Clearly, the overarching budget issue has yet to be addressed by the General Assembly. We are slated to discuss the budget and solutions to the deficit crisis this week. I will provide you with an additional update as soon as possible.
