NAUGATUCK – As part of improved roadway safety throughout the state, Rep. Bronko wanted to share with residents that a new wrong-way detection system is scheduled to be installed in Naugatuck on Route 8.

So far, more than 200 wrong-way drivers across Connecticut have self-corrected (or turned around) before entering the highway since the installation of these systems, which include counter measures like flashing lights to warn drivers that they are going the wrong way.

These systems are helpful and as a member of the legislature’s Transportation Committee we are continually looking at ways to improve safety.

This is from the DOT, which you may find helpful:

The system is scheduled to be installed on the Exit 25A southbound ramp in Naugatuck. The ramp is expected to be closed on Tuesday, March 11 from 7:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. Traffic will be detoured as follows: Take Exit 24 southbound, turn left at the stop sign onto Cross Street. Turn left onto Route 8 northbound. Take Exit 25A northbound.
