Rep. Bronko Votes in Support of Legislation to Strengthen Public Safety

HARTFORD, CT – In the final days of the 2025 Legislative Session Rep. Seth Bronko, R-Naugatuck, was working at the Capitol on a rare Saturday session voting in support of a package of legislation that puts public safety first.

Rep. Bronko voted in support of HB 7160, legislation that links boating and driving violations by extending suspensions and revocations across both licenses.

HB 7160 would mean that a conviction for DUI while boating, would affect your driving license too. This bill was born from a tragic boating accident in Connecticut that took the lives of three young people. During Transportation Committee hearings, Rep. Bronko and his colleagues heard powerful and heartbreaking testimony from one of the mothers who lost her son. Her voice—and the memory of those young lives—made it clear that the loophole that allows impaired individuals to operate on our waters.

The Yellow Envelope Bill, also included in HB 7160, is a compassionate, commonsense way to improve interactions between first responders and individuals with cognitive or physical disabilities. The bill creates a simple system—license, registration, and insurance in a yellow envelope with helpful communication tips right on the outside. It’s modeled after the successful Blue Envelope program and could make a real difference in tense or confusing situations.

This bill now awaits passage in the Senate.
