State Rep. Mitch Bolinsky: Celebrating William R Petrone’s 101st Birthday

Today was a terrific day to celebrate an amazing gentleman’s 101st birthday with family, friends, and colleagues, at Maplewood Senior Living at Newtown!

William Rocco Petrone was born on August 20,1923 to Italian immigrant parents, one of 10 brothers & sisters. He & his brothers enlisted and served in WWII, Will as a Sergeant in the Army’s 751st Artillery Battalion, serving under General Patton. At 21, he fought in the Battle of the Bulge.

Today, at 101, Will is the last surviving of Patton’s storied unit.

In addition to medals, memorabilia, a collection of WWII “Willie & Joe” cartoons by Bill Mau, State Senator Tony Hwang, State Representative Martin Foncello and I, Senator Richard Blumenthal, First Selectman Jeffrey Capeci, American Legion Post 202 Newtown, CT Commander, Donna Monteleone Randle, Vice Commander Philip Cruz and others enjoyed Maplewood’s beautiful outdoor patio, warm hospitality, and catering.

A perfect day and setting for 100 guests gathered to honor a remarkable man, celebrating his 101st trip around the sun!
