Ramp Closures on I-84 in Newtown – Exits 9 & 10

Friends and Neighbors,

I wanted to make you aware that the Department of Transportation (DOT) has issued the following details on the scheduled NIGHTTIME Exit 10 ramp closures for I-84 Westbound and the Exit 9 ramp closure of I-84 Eastbound in Newtown. Each ramp will be closed for two nights. Details on each closure are below:

• The Exit 10 closure will occur on Wednesday, May 15 and Thursday, May 16. ​
  • Work hours are scheduled between 10:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m.
• The Exit 9 closure will occur on Friday, May 17 and Saturday, May 18. ​
  • Work hours are scheduled between 10:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m

The closures and detours are necessary to facilitate maintenance and safety improvements of dozens of existing bridges over and under I-84.

Below, please find details on the DOT’s suggested detour routes for motorists:

I-84 Westbound Exit 10 Detour

• Westbound Exit 10 off-ramp: Take exit 9 and follow signs to Route 25 (Hawleyville Road) to Route 6 (left on Mt. Pleasant Road) to detour.
• Eastbound Exit 10 on-ramp: Follow detour Route 6 (Mt. Pleasant Road) to Route 25 (right on Hawleyville Road) to I-84 Westbound.

I-84 Eastbound Exit 9 Detour

• Eastbound Exit 9 off-ramp: Take exit 10 follow the above Route 25 detour.
• Westbound Exit 9 on-ramp: Follow Route 25 detour to exit 10.

Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving in this vicinity and avoid distractions. These inconveniences are short-term and temporary but part of the state’s long-term investment in bridge maintenance and overall safety.
