Friends and Neighbors,

Forced school consolidation is not my vision for Newtown Schools and is not likely yours. While efficiencies are a worthwhile pursuit, local control and careful consideration of anything that might negatively impact the effectiveness of our schools is a “non-starter” for me. No one knows what’s best for Newtown’s children than Newtown parents.

If you agree and do not want our children’s outcomes to be subject to state mandate, THIS IS YOUR CHANCE TO BE HEARD!

On Friday, March 1st at 1:00 p.m. in Room 2E of the Legislative Office Building, the Education Committee will be holding a public hearing to discuss school consolidation, including the following bills:

  • S.B. 874 – AN ACT CONCERNING EDUCATION INITIATIVES AND SERVICES IN CONNECTICUT.
  • H.B. 7150 – AN ACT IMPLEMENTING THE GOVERNOR’S BUDGET RECOMMENDATIONS CONCERNING EDUCATION.
  • S.B. No. 457 – AN ACT CONCERNING THE SIZE OF SCHOOL DISTRICTS.
  • S.B. No. 738 – AN ACT CONCERNING THE CREATION OF REGIONAL SCHOOL DISTRICTS

Your thoughts matter. Do you want your voice to be heard? Sign-ups for the public hearing will be from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the First Floor Atrium of the Legislative Office Building.

If you’d like to attend but are unable to, you can submit written testimony online by sending an email to edtestimony@cga.ct.gov. Please make sure to reference the bill number and your opposition or support in the email subject line. In the body of your letter, list your name and address at the top and be concise about your personal reason(s) for testifying. Finally, please cc me at mitch.bolinsky@housegop.ct.gov when you submit your testimony.

For more information regarding testifying in person, please click here.

Electronic testimony needs to be submitted no later than 3:30 PM on Thursday, Feb. 28th.

If you have any questions about this proposal or how to testify, please feel free to contact me.
