Newtown – State Representative Mitch Bolinsky (R-Newtown) supported an initiative today that will provide financial stability to Connecticut’s federal employees who ate caught in the unintended consequences of the government shut down. Bolinsky, along with the state legislature, passed an emergency-certified bill that creates an interest free loan program to federal employees until the government re-opens.

“We have about 1,500 Connecticut residents that are employed by the Federal Government. Of those, 1,300 continue to go to work every day without receiving a paycheck. This voluntary legislation, a public-private partnership, passed the House with great bipartisan support at the Capitol and will provide a means for these workers to receive financial compensation immediately, if they so choose,” explained Rep. Bolinsky.

The Federal Government has been shut down for 31 days, with no end in sight.

Rep. Bolinsky went on to say, “The reality is, these federal employees did not make the decision to stop doing business in Washington D.C. These people are hard-working, middle class families that simply cannot afford to go months without receiving a paycheck. The legislation passed today is a small way we can help them with life expenses and peace of mind.”
