Electricity Rate Increases Addressed, Energy Committee Informational Forum Upcoming
Hartford – The Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA) held a public hearing today in order to investigate if Eversource had over collected revenue from its customers. Several members of the House Republican caucus participated in the hearing by offering testimony on the issue against the approved rate increases. At the end of June, PURA had approved a rate increase that impacted customers during an unusually hot summer in the midst of a pandemic. Opening statements were made by Penni Connor (click to read opening statement), Chief Customer Officer and Senior Vice President of the Customer Group for Eversource Energy, and Doug Horton (click to read opening statement), Vice President of Distribution Rates and Regulatory Requirements for Eversource. The two presented a series of slides that show how the rate increases were applied to customer’s bills. To review the slides that were presented at the hearing, click here. If you were unable to view today’s hearing, a recording will be available on CT-N’s website. In addition to today’s hearing, the legislature will continue to take action on electricity rate increases and the response to Tropical Storm Isaias. On Thursday, August 27, at 10:30 a.m. the Energy Committee will be conducting a virtual Informational Forum on both the storm response and rate increases.
