Dear friends and neighbors,
Connecticut is continuing an age-based approach to COVID-19 vaccine eligibility. Below is important information announced today.
- Vaccination schedule for every resident: All residents will be able to get a vaccine appointment based on their age per the following schedule.
- Currently – Everyone 65+
- March 1 – Age 55+
- March 22 – Age 45+
- April 12 – Age 35+
- May 3 – Age 16+
While the state has decided not to give a priority to essential workers or those with chronic conditions, it has laid down a clear timeline for eligibility for everyone. This process ensures that no complex subjective rules need to be setup to decide on eligibility. Appointments for the new group start on the date mentioned above – so 55+ can start making appointments on March 1. The process to make appointment stays the same. Please read my last email titled “Three ways to make a vaccine appointment“. All vaccinations will be appointment only, no walk-ins allowed. If you need help, please do not hesitate to email me or give me a call at 203-571-9325.
- Special program in March for teachers and staff: In addition to age-based eligibility, preK-12 school staff and teachers and professional childcare providers will be eligible to receive the vaccine in March at dedicated clinics that will be setup specifically for those sectors. Educators and childcare professionals will soon receive information from their school administrators and employers and should not make their own appointments using the above process.
- Vaccination update: As of today, 582,000 CT residents (17%) have received at least one dose. 70% of those above 75 and 37% of our population between 65 and 74 have received at least one dose.
- COVID update: The positivity rate, hospitalizations and mortality have continued to come down over the last few weeks. A number of restrictions have been relaxed. Starting Friday, 3/19, indoor gatherings will be increased to 50% of capacity, capped at 100 people (currently 25). Outdoor capacity will be increased to 200 people (currently 50). These are all positive signs. Once teachers have been vaccinated in March, there is good reason to plan a full reopening of our schools sometime in April.
