Dear friends and neighbors,
I have advocated that our seniors be given priority access to the COVID vaccine. In my Op-ed, I reasoned how allocating 90% of vaccines by descending order of age would save thousands of lives. I thank Governor Lamont and his administration for listening and prioritizing seniors. The state Department of public health (DPH) is focused on vaccinating our seniors in two tiers.
Ages 75 or older: Everyone in this age bracket is eligible RIGHT NOW and can schedule an appointment by email or phone. Details HERE. Since the number of vaccines is limited, all vaccinations are by appointment only. There are no walk-ins.
Ages 65 – 74: In about 10 days, once the 200,000 of our 75+ seniors have made their appointments, the system will be additionally opened to those above 65. The process to obtain the appointment will be the same as above. I will send another email when the Governor allows the 65-74 age group.
Based on the current vaccine availability, we can expect all our seniors to have the opportunity to be vaccinated by sometime in March. I have also advocated for those with serious medical conditions and those who are immunocompromised to be given priority. The state administration is considering that proposal, but no decision has been made yet.
As of January 19th, CT has received 255,650 first doses, of which 196,753 have been administered. HERE is the latest vaccine update provided by DPH
