Hartford, CT—State Representative Chris Aniskovich (R-35) strongly supports the House Republican budget proposal, which adopts a prudent, transparent, and disciplined approach to state spending, prioritizing the needs of Connecticut families.

“This budget is a commitment to Connecticut’s families, easing the strain of rising costs while securing our state’s financial future through smart, sustainable choices,” said Rep. Aniskovich.

The Republican plan upholds fiscal guardrails that have stabilized Connecticut’s finances, maintaining the Volatility Cap and achieving $104.3 million in pension savings for Fiscal Year 2027, with cumulative savings projected to exceed $800 million annually.

Key features of the budget include:

    • Full funding for state employee healthcare, allocating $370 million over two years to cover costs overlooked in Governor Lamont’s plan, ensuring state workers and retirees receive promised care without burdening future budgets.
    • A 5% reduction in state agency operating costs, saving $67 million by eliminating waste while preserving essential services.
    • A $250 annual registration fee for electric vehicles, aligning with models in states like New Jersey, to ensure all drivers contribute fairly to road maintenance.
    • A two-year wage freeze for state employees after recent salary increases and bonuses, saving taxpayers $330 million, alongside eliminating automatic legislative pay raises, saving nearly $800,000.
    • Modest fare increases for buses and trains to reduce reliance on unsustainable COVID-era subsidies, promoting fiscal responsibility in public transit.
    • $137.5 million in Medicaid rate increases to support hospitals and healthcare providers serving vulnerable populations.
    • Cost-saving healthcare measures, including adopting the Governor’s proposal to end state coverage of GL-1 medications prescribed solely for weight loss, saving $45 million.

“Our plan delivers for taxpayers by prioritizing essential services and cutting wasteful spending, proving we can govern effectively without short-sighted political fixes,” said Rep. Aniskovich. “Unlike the costly proposals from Democrat leadership, this budget puts Connecticut first, balancing fiscal discipline with investments in our communities’ core needs.”
