Hartford, CT – State Representative Chris Aniskovich (R-35), Ranking Member of the Commerce Committee, today announced the House of Representatives has passed HB 5008, a bill that establishes a Puerto Rican Trade Commission to strengthen Connecticut’s economic and cultural ties with Puerto Rico.
“I was proud to support HB 5008 from the beginning and to help lead its passage through the Commerce Committee and now the House,” said Rep. Aniskovich. “This bill is a significant step forward in our ongoing efforts to grow Connecticut’s economy through meaningful international and regional partnerships.”
The Puerto Rican Trade Commission is modeled after the success of Connecticut’s Ireland Trade Commission, which has fostered strong bilateral relationships in trade, education, infrastructure, and industry. The new commission aims to build similar bridges with Puerto Rico, enhancing collaboration, promoting investment, and encouraging innovation across sectors.
“This is about creating opportunity for businesses, workers, and communities across our state and Puerto Rico,” Aniskovich added. “Smart economic development reflects our shared values and long-standing connections.”
The bill now heads to the Senate for consideration.
