In honor of Women’s History Month, State Representative Chris Aniskovich partnered with sixth graders from Westbrook Middle School to host an essay contest recognizing the remarkable contributions of Connecticut women. The initiative, co-organized with a fellow advocate for education and history, invited students to reflect on the legacy of influential women from the state.
This year’s contest saw an inspiring coincidence: both winners, Scarlet Lezca and Olivia Jochim, independently chose to write about Connecticut’s trailblazing first female Governor, Ella Grasso. Rep. Aniskovich congratulated Scarlet and Olivia for their outstanding essays, which stood out among many impressive submissions.
“It was an honor to celebrate Women’s History Month with the talented students of Westbrook Middle School,” said Rep. Aniskovich. “Scarlet and Olivia’s essays on Governor Ella Grasso were exceptional, and I’m proud to recognize their achievements. Thank you to all the sixth graders who participated and shared their insights on the women who have shaped our state’s history.”
To commemorate their success, Rep. Aniskovich and his co-organizer presented Scarlet and Olivia with legislative citations during a special ceremony. The event underscored the importance of inspiring young minds to explore and honor the contributions of women in Connecticut and beyond.
