Yesterday, I was invited to attend a briefing by representatives from the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection’s Parks, Forestry, and Engineering departments on an upcoming paving project at Chatfield Hollow State Park.
The proposed paving project will include the removal of approximately 155+/- trees in the park itself and another 50+/- in the parking lot. According to DOT, the trees being designated for removal are currently either impeding drainage/the existing pavement infrastructure, are a hazard for public safety, or are necessary for the expansion of the parking lots.
Trees marked with a single orange dot are scheduled to be cut. Those marked with two orange dots are scheduled to be pruned. Work is set to begin in December 2023 and continue through March 2024. The anticipated work hours are Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
