HARTFORD – Fourth grade students from New Hartford’s Ann Antolini School visited the State Capitol on Tuesday, November 28th. After touring both the Legislative Office Building and Senate chambers, the group met with their State Representative, Mark Anderson.  “I spoke with two separate tour groups, each engaging and interested to learn about our state government. We had a great discussion about the House chamber operations and how Connecticut’s laws are made,” said Anderson.

The State Capitol’s Victorian-Era golden dome structure opened in 1878. After two centuries, legislators and staff were beginning to run out of space in the Capitol structure and by 1988 construction was completed on the Legislative Office Building. The two buildings are connected via an underground concourse, allowing foot traffic to cross between the two buildings with ease. Committee work is primarily conducted in the larger Legislative Office Building, including meetings, hearings, and informational forums. Legislative sessions take place in the Capitol building, in both Senate and House chambers.
