New Hartford – The governor’s office recently announced release of about $9 million in grants to plan, design and build 50 recreational trails throughout the state. According to State Representative Mark Anderson, the Town of New Hartford will receive an allocation of $616,000 for the first phase of a multi-use trail project.
This grant, which was released in the May round of Connecticut Recreational Trails Program, was the largest of the 50 approved. The program is administered by the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP).
“I strongly supported the grant application when it was submitted. I am pleased when we can bring funds back to the district for projects that enhance residents’ and visitors’ enjoyment of our beautiful outdoor spaces. I look forward to the ultimate completion of this project and its future positive impact on our community,” said Anderson, who sent a letter to the governor’s office in support of the project.
According to DEEP, there are many other positives that residents will benefit from with increased access to trails. Engaging in outdoor activities, like biking and hiking, help mental and physical health.
The planning phase is expected to begin shortly, which will be followed by construction of the trail.
