EAST WINDSOR – Energy and Technology Committee members, State Representatives Christopher Davis (R-57) and Tim Ackert (R-8) recently toured USA Hauling & Recycling’s East Windsor facility with representatives from Earthlight Technologies to learn more about their new solar installation.

The solar array includes rooftop panels and a custom built carport to house a fleet of compress natural gas (CNG) trucks. The solar panels produce 786,523 kWh/year, the equivalent to powering 85 homes per year for 40 years. The electricity is used to power natural gas compressors to refuel the trucks overnight and supply electricity for onsite operations.

“I applaud USA Hauling and Earthlight Technologies for developing a way to cut down on expensive utility and fuel costs in an environmentally positive way,” said Rep. Davis. “The solar array powers USA Hauling’s natural gas compressors to fuel their large fleet of trucks with CNG. It is a great way to use renewable and cleaner energy to pick up recyclables and waste in our communities, and allows them to also offer CNG to other businesses to fuel their vehicles.”

Rep. Ackert noted, “The Governor and the legislature have laid out a goal of creating a more sustainable and independent grid. It’s important as a member of the Energy and Technology Committee to see first-hand how these goals can be implemented and to understand the challenges faced by energy consumers and producers. This is a great example of Connecticut based companies building the infrastructure to power their needs.”
