HARTFORD— State Representative Tim Ackert (R-8) began his sixth term in Connecticut’s House of Representatives on Wednesday, taking the oath of office in an outdoor ceremony in Hartford. Ackert and his 150 colleagues in the lower house were sworn in on the north steps of the State Capitol building while exercising social distancing. Wednesday marked the beginning of the 2021 legislative session and of Ackert’s sixth term in the legislature. “I’m humbled to have been given the opportunity to serve the families of the 8th District. When I first became your representative in 2010, I could not imagine being where I am today, and I’m truly grateful for the faith you have placed in me. Thank you,” Rep. Ackert said.

Last month, Representative Ackert was named to serve on the Energy and Technology Committee, which oversees matters relating to the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection and energy planning. Rep. Ackert continued, “for towns like Columbia, Coventry, Tolland and Vernon that experienced both the sustained power outages and unexpected delivery cost increases of the summer, energy policy is a critical concern. We need affordable and dependable energy distribution in this state, and I’ll push for more opportunities for communities to localize their distribution and have more control over their grid.”

Ackert was also appointed to the legislature’s Higher Education Committee, which oversees the state’s public colleges and universities. Rep. Ackert said, “I’m proud to have been actively involved as a supporter and trustee of Connecticut’s community college system, which every year offers low-cost education and critical vocational support for students entering the workforce. Trade schools and community colleges ensure that Connecticut gives residents the tools necessary to find work in an ever-changing economy.”

The 2021 legislative session began January 6th and will run until June 9th, 2021. Representative Ackert was first elected to the legislature in November 2010, and represents the 8th General Assembly District of Columbia, Coventry, Tolland, and Vernon.
