COVENTRY – State Representative Tim Ackert (R-8) celebrated Read Across America Day by reading “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie” by Laura Numeroff to Mrs. Buckley’s and Mrs. LaBorious’ pre-k class at Hale Early Education Center. The annual tradition promotes early childhood literacy and commemorates Dr. Seuss’ birthday.

“I have always enjoyed reading to my own children and grandchildren. Every year, I look forward to Read Across America Day as a way to share the importance of reading with our students,” said Rep. Ackert.

Earlier in the day, Rep. Ackert read to classes at Coventry Grammar School, Horace W. Porter School in Columbia, and Birch Grove School in Tolland.

According to its website, The National Education Association seeks to build a nation of readers through its signature program, NEA’s Read Across America. For more information about this great event please visit www.nea.org/readacross.
