VERNON – State Representative Tim Ackert (R-8) celebrated Read Across America Day as a guest reader at Lake Street School reading “Miss Rumphius” by Barbara Cooney to Mrs. Guillet’s and Mrs. Schipper’s fifth grade classes.

“It was an honor to be a guest reader at Lake Street School. Read Across America is a truly special opportunity to inspire a life-long love of reading and learning. As a parent and now grandparent I have enjoyed reading to my own kids and grandkids, I challenged these students to show off their skills by reading to their own parents and grandparents,” said Rep. Ackert. “It was also a pleasure to answer questions about my role as State Representative and give a few practical examples about how laws are made and the three branches of state government.”

According to their website, The National Education Association seeks to build a nation of readers through its signature program, NEA’s Read Across America. Now in its 22nd year, this annual day focuses on motivating children and teens to read through events, partnerships, and reading resources.
