Phase One of the governor’s reopening plan began May 20, 2020. This applies to offices, retail and malls, outdoor-only seating for restaurants, and the outdoor sections of zoos and museums.

Important Update from the Department of Labor

On April 30th, the Connecticut Department of Labor (CTDOL) announced that the self-employed could apply for federal unemployment benefits. Unfortunately, the system was not fully set up to handle those claims.

Today, the site has been updated and the Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation “red button” is posted and active on their site.

At this point, I suspect that many of you have seen or heard the tragic news related to the suicide of a dedicated 49-year-old emergency room physician. She had contracted COVID-19, recovered, and then returned to work briefly, but shortly after returning to work she ended her own life. Amidst all of the suffering that this pandemic has wrought, devastating stories such as these are an added component to keep in mind.
