Rep. Ziobron Encourages Residents to Consider Seasonal Flu Vaccination

East Haddam – Representative Melissa Ziobron (R-34) is encouraging all residents to consider getting vaccinated for the seasonal flu. Local Pharmacist Jack Herman owner of the Nathan Hale Pharmacy in East Haddam invited Representative Ziobron to get vaccinated for the seasonal flu.

“I have never had a flu shot before, after getting the flu last year, I decided to take Jack up on his offer,” said Representative Ziobron. “I know that there is a lot of apprehension from getting the flu shot and certainly understand why someone might not choose to do so. It’s a personal choice. But if you have questions, I hope you’ll visit Jack or another health professional.” Nathan Hale Pharmacy has already delivered over 600 flu shots already this year.

Keeping you Informed

This Monday I wrapped up a districtwide series of town hall meetings to talk about the most important issue of the past legislative session, the biennial state budget.

I want to sincerely thank the residents of East Haddam, East Hampton and Colchester for their participation and most importantly for their informed questions and feedback. Thanks as well to Representative Linda Orange and Senator Art Linares for co-hosting one of the series.

These town hall meetings were an opportunity to share an inside view of the budget process. As the Republican ranking member of the Appropriations Committee, I have spent much of the last year crafting multiple proposals – going through line by line to find savings and set taxpayer spending priorities. However, as I have been warning, there are still deficits on the horizon and uncertainty in revenue projections from both the Governor’s Office and the non-partisan Office of Fiscal Analysis. I would urge constituents to stay engaged and for town officials to carefully manage unanticipated state funds from this fiscal year, in preparation for a potentially diminishing fiscal future.

In the upcoming session beginning in February 2018, many of the same unresolved issues will be debated again and legislators will be focused on amending the 2019 state budget. I am proud of my relentless work on behalf of the district and that will continue, even in the face of the enormous challenges that remain.
